Barbara Boxer began her public service career at the local level, serving 6 years on the Marin County Board of Supervisors. She was elected to the House of Representatives in 1982 and served in that capacity for 10 years. In 1992, she was elected to the Senate. With this election, California became the first state to have two women elected as Senators. She was elected to a third term in 2004.
